The Lakewood Chamber was incorporated on April 11, 1949, five years before the city of Lakewood. A time when Truman was inaugurated as President and color TV was first introduced by RCA. It was this year that Chrysler first offered a key ignition instead of a push button!

Having moved several times, the Chamber has resided in the former Dutch Village Shopping Center, the Burns Community Center, Dr. David Goren's office, and two different locations on Del Amo Blvd.  The Chamber is currently at 4010 Watson Plaza Drive in Lakewood.

Through the years, the Greater Lakewood Chamber of Commerce has sponsored events such as "Lakewood Night with the California Angels," "Lakewood Day with the L.A. Dodgers," "Lakewood Day at the L.A. Fair," and picnic and ice cream socials. While continuing to grow in membership, the Lakewood Chamber also conducted United Crusade fundraising campaigns and was a strong participant in the Pan American Festival. In the late 60's and early 70's, the Greater Lakewood Chamber Women's Chapter was very active and hosted membership teas and holiday luncheons as well as annual city beautification drives.

It's amazing to think how far the Chamber has come over the years. Although there have been a lot changes over the past 56 years, there are some things that have remained the same. The hard work and commitment by dedicated staff and volunteers of the Greater Lakewood Chamber during its 56 years has allowed the Chamber to grow and thrive and become the advocate it is today for Chamber members of the business community.
